Profile

Profile
Just Eat Takeaway.com N.V. (formerly Takeaway.com) describes itself as one of the leading online food market places on the European mainland. This marketplace connects consumers and restaurants in nine European countries. According to its own information, the company has market leading positions (in terms of number of restaurants, orders and gross goods value or GMV) in each of its core markets, the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Austria and Poland. The revenues mainly come from commissions based on the GMV of the food ordered via the platform and, to a lesser extent, from fees for online payment services. At the start of 2020, the company merged with Just Eat Plc.
Industry
Retail (food)
Description
The retail sector (food) consists mainly of large supermarket chains. Most supermarket chains operate internationally, with the United States as the largest market. The markets in Western Europe and North America are fairly saturated, making these markets growing only with a few percent per year. Other markets such as emerging markets are not yet saturated, so consumers may spend more on food each year and the markets are still very fragmented, which may result in consolidation.
