ING Group is a global financial services company of Dutch origin with 150 years experience. ING is the largest financial institution in its home market, the Benelux countries. It has an extensive product range in the fields of banking, insurance and asset management. ING was established as a company in 1990, because of a merger. In that year, the legal restrictions for mergers between banks and insures disappeared. The companies Nationale-Nederlanden and NMB Postbank Groep negotiated a merger. The company renamed itself to Internationale Nederlanden Groep in 1991. In market circles, the name was soon abbreviated to ING, whereafter the company decided to rename again, this time to ING Groep NV. Since 1991, ING has grown from a Dutch company with some international business to a multinational company with Dutch roots. In 2010, ING announced its bank and insurance branch to split.
