Hunter Douglas is a world leader in window coverings and building products. Its products can be found in millions of homes and buildings around the world. Hunter Douglas is a producer of alternative window coverings such as blinds (Luxaflex). Other known brand names are Luminette and Silhouette. Distribution of products is organized through a global network of independent and self owned assembly stores which sell its products, assembles and distributes in local markets. Hunter Douglas has started in 1919 by Henry Sonnenberg in Germany and in 1933 moved to the Netherlands. In 1940 the Sonnenberg left the Netherlands to settle in America where he started the Douglas Machinery Company. In 1946 he formed a joint venture with Joe Hunter and Hunter Douglas was born. The company obtains the majority of sales in the United States. Hunter Douglas is very innovative and has a good acquisition strategy. It has a low free float of shares.
